I'm having a hard time accepting that "gauge" is pronounced exactly like "gage" in "engage". It's like there's no "u" even though it's right there, in the middle!
Took too long but I finally managed to switch my #rust web site from #tide to #axum. I still like Tide but there are just too many Tokio-only crates I want to use that I really had no choice.
Async Rust is great but it can also be a big time sink.
"Environmentalists do not simply express private preferences, but put forward ideas of the good, based on scientific knowledge and phrased in moral terms.” – Avner de-Shalit
A chilling character called The Judge in Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian explains his vile reason to document all of nature:
"Whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent.
These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. [...] Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain [overlord] of the earth."
Recent research has shown that increased logging in #Finland has collapsed our carbon sinks.
Yet during an election debate, the question "Is logging in Finland on a sustainable level?" had mostly positive answers. Whether or not something is sustainable is now just a matter of opinion.
It's increasingly obvious that #sustainability has been co-opted by the hegemony, and now serves only those in power.
When talking about environmental issues the term should be avoided altogether.
Me: "..this is also related to China's plans for world domination."
11yo: "Why do they want world domination?"
Indeed. China wants to surpass USA (which wanted to surpass Europe), but why is it that we just accept that domination is a valid goal to begin with?
This a very important and powerful manifesto from peoples of the Global South demanding a just #ecosocial energy transition.
Especially recommend reading to those of us living in the Global North who are constantly bombarded by technology-driven "clean energy transitions" that are touted as "win-win".
