Mornin'. Have some Charley Harper to start your day. #Art
@shauna slop vendor saying "hey try my slop! Don't worry about the quality!"
@cschrader ooooof
I've got some more grist for the mill. There's some clowns that have LLMs spamming people via e-mail "thanking them" for their work. Rob Pike, just got one of those stupid e-mails and went nuclear on it.
Rob Pike is a very influential computer scientist and engineer (formerly from Google) - so a lot of the techies are seeing their idol say what a lot of us are thinking.

@firefoxwebdevs @SamatSattarov so your definition of opt-in includes enabling a bunch of browser.ml about:config settings after updates, including all the ones I’ve already disabled, just in case I change my mind and want my browser to be full of absolute horseshit?
that’s fucking worthless and I’d tell you to feel ashamed that this dark pattern crap is what you think constitutes consent, but let’s be real: you’re a PR mouthpiece for an AI corporation and are incapable of shame.
@zzt there are dozens of LLM boosters in socialist discussion spaces that are like this. They will say anything to justify their fetish with this stupid technology
@vees I have a bunch of notes - the main thing is that the GeForce 9400M is quite old and doesn't work with Wayland so I'm falling back to X11
What kind of machine were you going to use?
About a year ago I installed Ubuntu 24.04 on a 2012 MacBook Pro. It worked pretty well but some issues. A recent kernel update and nouveau driver update now makes it where the brightness is able to be changed. I'm really surprised and it keeps it from becoming e-waste for a while longer
I took a break, but eventually came back and solved this whole thing. I'm very happy with the results. I'll probably write a blog post and share the code soon
@skyfaller take a half a perc like I did (not recommended)
@Notactuallyfromphilly exactly. I was not going to upgrade to Win11, I was maybe going to try and do that Win10 ESU but now my entire steam library works on Linux so it's finally the year of the Linux desktop
For a long time, I had a Windows partition and a Linux partition on my desktop machine. The windows partition was only for Steam to play games.
I had Steam installed on my Linux partition but the compatibility for my full library was not complete.
This has recently changed, my entire library of games is installable on Linux now.
It's time to dump the Windows partition completely.
I had to unsubscribe from a bunch of programming subreddits because it's all just posts of people that vibe code a project and share it. It's so tiring.
In this modern era of acquisitions, weak antitrust regulations, and platform capitalism leading to extreme concentrations of wealth, non-profits remain a bastion defending what remains of the commons.
Trump endorsed Zohran Mamdani before Chuck Schumer did!
Rachel Maddow going to Dick Cheyney's funeral shows that it's just a big fucking game for the ruling class of this country
@vees glad he was healthy enough to vote to give Trump everything he wanted before getting hospitalized
Pennsylvania Democrats capitulate on the PA state budget, with no funding for SEPTA. Vote blue no matter whoooooooo!!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️
